Too many margaritas later, I see Nicco, Eli, and Jackson walk into the restaurant. Harvey called them to come to our rescue because we aren’t in any condition to drive.

“Hey, fellas,” Eli, our resident fireman at Mockingbird Place, says with a grin. “How are you feeling?”

“We’re feeling just fine. That’s the problem.” Harvey chuckles.

Nicco teasingly shakes his finger at the three of us. “Drunk on a Sunday afternoon. You should be ashamed of yourselves.”

“Not drunk,” I say with a grin. “Just happy.”

“Happy and buzzing,” Eli adds.

Nathan nods. “That’s the gospel truth.”

“Thanks for coming.” Harvey reaches in his pocket. “Jackson, here are my keys to the Rolls.”

“You’ve got to be kidding me. You want me to drive a car worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, Harvey?”

He grins. “It’s insured, and it’s just a car.”

“It’s not just a car to me.” Jackson takes a deep breath.

Nicco nods. “More like a king’s throne on wheels.”

Nathan giggles. “Or queen’s.”

“Nathan! That’s not nice.” He busts out in hysterics.

We all laugh.

Once we gain our composure, Jackson says, “I guess there’s no getting out of it. We can’t leave Harvey’s Rolls here overnight.” He turns to me. “Father Stephen, would you mind saying a prayer for me?”

I laugh again, still feeling the effects of my three margaritas. “I will, but I’m sure you’ll be fine.”

“I hope you’re right.” He looks at Eli. “Honey, just know when you’re following, I’m going to drive really slow, okay.”

Eli kisses him. “Okay.”

I hug Harvey and Nathan. “Thank you. I really appreciate the meal, the advice, but most of all those great margaritas.”

Harvey laughs once again, and we all join in. He looks at Nathan. “Let’s go, sweetheart. I feel nap eyes coming on.”

“So do I, honey. So do I.”

Nicco and I watch them walk out of the restaurant.

He holds out his hand. “I’m your driver, Stephen.”

“Yes, you are.” I give him my keys.

We walk to my car.

Nicco drives us out of the parking lot. “Stephen, there’s something important I need to talk with you about. How buzzy are you?”

I can tell whatever is on his mind is very serious. “I really feel fine. I just knew I shouldn’t drive. How about we stop for coffee and pie?”

“Won’t that destroy your buzz?”

“It’s already gone.” I’m anxious to hear what he has to say. “Let’s go to Lucy’s.”

“Sounds good to me.”

The owner of the diner, whose name is actually Lucy, greets us. She’s a throwback to the 50s and always wears her red hair the way her famous comedian namesake wore hers. “Father Stephen, have you come to eat dinner or do you want your usual, pie and coffee? And who is this good-looking man with you?”

“This is Nicco, Anthony’s brother.”

She shakes his hand. “It’s very nice to meet you.”

“Same here. I’ve heard so much about you, Lucy. Can’t wait to try your food.”

“You won’t be disappointed,” I say, turning back to Lucy. “We’re here for my usual—pie and coffee.”

“Excellent.” She leads us to a booth. “I just put on a fresh pot.
